Presumptive Republican Party presidential candidate Mitt Romney can’t escape scrutiny regading his tax records from years past, and now the American Congress is asking for a tax haven bill. What does it say though when elected lawmakers aren’t disclosing their files either? Professor Wilmer Leon of Howard University says that, in a representative democracy, full disclosure needs to happen so US citizens can see that their lawmakers are speaking to the country’s interests–not their own. He talks to RT’s Abby Martin on the hypocricy happening on Capitol Hill.

Sir Richard Branson is urging the US government to help commercialise a controversial class of nuclear reactor, according to a letter seen by the Guardian asking for a meeting with President Barack Obama and US energy secretary Steven Chu.

The White House declined the meeting to discuss integral fast reactors (IFRs), which proponents say offer a way of dealing with nuclear waste, although no working commercial reactors are in operation.

But the move brings the intriguing prospect of a race to develop nuclear technology between Branson and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, whose new company TerraPower is developing another type of next-generation nuclear technology known as the travelling wave reactor.

“Obviously we urgently need to come up with a clean effective way of supplying our energy since not only are the dirty ways like oil running out but we need to do so to help avoid the world heating up,” Branson told the Guardian.

That opinion echoes Branson’s letter to Obama, co-signed by two others including Eric Loewen, the chief engineer for GE-Hitachi’s Prism reactor, which along with fuel recycling facilities would constitute an IFR. Loewen signed the letter in his capacity as president of the American Nuclear Society, not as the Prism boss.

A Harris County woman pulled a gun on a CenterPoint Energy worker to prevent the installation of a smart meter in a confrontation that highlights concerns about the devices being used to spy on Americans’ energy use, as well as possible health impacts.

55-year-old Thelma Taormina has signs posted on her front gate warning utility employees not to trespass on her land, as well as another that reads, “No smart meters are to be installed on this property.”

However, that didn’t stop a CenterPoint Energy worker from attempting to replace Taormina’s old electricity meter with a new device that wirelessly beams back information on each home’s energy use to a central hub.

When the worker began physically pushing Taormina out of the way in an effort to install the smart meter, Taormina drew her gun and demanded the worker leave the property .

“Our constitution allows us not to have that kind of intrusion on our personal privacy,” Taormina told KHOU 11 News. “They’ll be able to tell if you are running your computer, air conditioner, whatever it is.”

The Israeli Olympic team will stay at the athletes' village

The Israeli Olympic team will stay at the athletes’ village

Despite the murders in Bulgaria, the London Olympics poses no specific threat to the Jewish community, although organisations should remain vigilant, experts have advised.

Olympic organisers have prepared contingency plans for dozens of potential domestic and international incidents that could affect foreign dignitaries, London residents and spectators travelling to the capital for the Games —including the consequences if Israel attacks Iran during the next three weeks.

The Community Security Trust has advised Jewish institutions, synagogues and communal centres in London to take sensible precautions and remain vigilant, but stressed there was no direct threat to the community.

“With the number of visitors there is always a risk,” said CST’s Dave Rich. “Communal organisations may get unannounced visitors. People might come to London and want to attend a synagogue service.

“British Jews have to be ready to deal with it and find a balance between being an open, welcoming community and following the security advice.”

An emergency situation room has been created underneath the Foreign Office in Whitehall, and extra protection for dignitaries or emergency departure plans, for those needing to leave Britain quickly, can be provided.

Israeli athletes will stay in the Olympic village with their security arrangements handled by the British organisers and approached in the same way as for all other teams.

However, it has been reported in the Israeli media that members of Israel’s internal security service, Shin Bet, will accompany the delegation and offer additional support.

Despite the Guardian highlighting a potential Israeli strike on Iran as one of the major concerns for organisers, Foreign Office and London 2012 officials played down the fear, saying it was simply one consideration among “hundreds” of possible scenarios.

We live near an airport and see planes all the time. As a matter of fact we saw 2 planes not 10 seconds before this appeared… Anyone know what this is? I’m tagging this as a UFO because I don’t know what it is – not because I believe it’s an ET craft.

This weekend will kick off the annual summer getaway for members of The Bohemian Club. The Bohemian Grove was founded in 1872 and it’s an annual summer retreat for some of the worlds most powerful and influential people where they engage in a mock human sacrifice to appease the owl god known as Moloch. The idea of sacrificing people (often children) to Moloch goes back thousands of years and can be traced to the ancient Canaanites and Babylonians. The powerful leaders of our day are no different from their forefathers who dabbled with the occult in order to achieve more power, fame and wealth.

ON DUTY police officers saw a UFO near Hamsterley Forest, according to newly released “X-files”.
According to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) files, four Durham Police officers spotted a three-dimensional diamond shape, about the size of a large helicopter, hovering above a field near Hamsterley Forest.
The officers, who were about to carry out a dog training exercise when they spotted the object, reported the incident to Durham Police air support unit.
They said they spotted the object flying between 100 metres and 200 metres away from them.  It was described as having a green light on either side and a red and white light on the centre of the body.
The sighting, which took place in September 2005, lasted for about two minutes and officers claimed it moved away to the north when their car’s lights shone on it.
Another officer who was with them said he did not see the UFO.
The incident was one of thousands recorded by the MoD between 1965 and 2008. Hitherto top secret documents running to 6,700 pages were released last week.  Included were documents revealing former prime minister Tony Blair received a briefing on UFOs from the MoD because of his concerns over the disclosure of classified information on alien life forms.
A spokeswoman for Durham Police said: “The current database doesn’t go back that far so we have no further details of this incident. When we get a call about something we log the report and contact air traffic control. We also check with the RAF search and rescue in case what was reported is a light aircraft going down.
“Quite often it ends up being Chinese lanterns.”
In January, the Teesdale Mercury reported a UFO sighting between Gainford and Barnard Castle. An elderly couple claimed to have seen a flying saucer shaped object with steel tentacles, which glowed underneath. The incident happened in 2010.
In March a man reported he saw an object in the shape of Big Ben’s clock face floating over Cockfield. And Orange balls of light were spotted above Barnard Castle in 2009.
